Magnetic flux noise in dc SQUIDs: temperature and geometry dependence.

The spectral density S(Φ)(f) = A(2)/(f/1 Hz)(α) of magnetic flux noise in ten dc superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs) with systematically varied geometries shows that α increases as the temperature is lowered; in so doing, each spectrum pivots about a nearly constant frequency. The mean-square flux noise, inferred by integrating the power spectra, grows rapidly with temperature...

Pressure Dependence of Flux Dynamics in High Temperature Superconductors

One of the important problems of high-temperature superconductivity is to understand and ultimately to control uxoid motion. We will describe a new technique for measuring the pressure dependence of Tc in a diamond anvil cell by the third harmonic of the ac susceptibility. It requires no background subtraction and allows the use of gasket materials made from hardened steels. More signi cantly, ...

Pressure Dependence of Flux Dynamics in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ

An important problem in high temperature superconductivity is that of understanding, and ultimately controlling, fluxoid motion. Results are presented in this paper which were obtained using a new technique for measuring the pressure dependence of the transition to superconductivity in a diamond-anvil cell. By monitoring the third harmonic of the acsusceptibility, we observe the onset of irreve...

Towards precise defect control in layered oxide structures by using oxide molecular beam epitaxy

In this paper we present the atomic-layer-by-layer oxide molecular beam epitaxy (ALL-oxide MBE) which has been recently installed in the Max-Planck Institute for Solid State Research and we report on its present status, providing some examples that demonstrate its successful application in the synthesis of different layered oxides, with particular reference to superconducting La2CuO4 and insula...

Relative Flux Homomorphism in Symplectic Geometry

In this work we define a relative version of the flux homomorphism, introduced by Calabi in 1969, for a symplectic manifold. We use it to study (the universal cover of) the group of symplectomorphisms of a symplectic manifold leaving a Lagrangian submanifold invariant. We show that some quotients of this group are stable under symplectic reduction.
